Favourite of all, was the module on Labour rights and laws in Uganda. I had worked for a couple of organizations but with no contracts and I didn’t think it was a problem, how wrong I was!
“If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself up and try again.” I got into the Young Leaders Forum upon my second time applying. After an intense interview I managed to make the cut.
I have been a leader all of my life though I did not know. During the programme, I was made to understand I did not need a title or well-furnished office to qualify. As a photographer, I could use my camera to tell the stories I wanted to tell and bring the change I wanted to see. While on the programme, questions like, what are the things that shape my priority and why should someone be led by me we answered. I understood that I am as good as how much I know, I need to keep myself informed if I am going to be of any influence.
With each module, my mind was opened to new knowledge and a deeper understanding of my role as a young person in Uganda. Favourite of all, was the module on Labour rights and laws in Uganda. I had worked for a couple of organizations but with no contracts and I didn’t think it was a problem, how wrong I was! Today I am certain my labour rights cannot be violated at my watch. I also look out for my peers to ensure as they get into the work world to ensure their employers are meeting their end of the bargain.
I am very grateful to FES and the other YLF participants, you’re the family I prayed for.
